Materials for field work

  1. Landowner permission for sampling
  2. GPS equipment to obtain precise latitude and longitude coordinates of site (optional)
  3. Topographic/road map of area
  4. Clipboard and paper and pencil for mapping Phragmites patch and drawing location of samples
  5. Compass
  6. PVC frame (fully assembled encloses a 1 m x 1 m area)
  7. 50-100m measuring Tape (metric)
  8. Duct Tape
  9. Markers (Sharpies)
  10. Pruners
  11. Goggles or safety glasses
  12. Boots, if sampling in water
  13. Students should wear solid shoes and long sleeves and pants
  14. Work gloves
  15. Large, heavy bags for plants
  16. Lots of labels (to label quadrat and location and transect)
  17. Camera (optional)
